[Growwine] bears and moose

Hunting license for moose is not possible, they do a draw for them and you
have to accept the area drawn and the sex of the moose chosen for you, only
so many drawn have to have a course on firearms , give up your first born
etc. etc. and heaven help you if you shoot one without a licence, that and
salmon poaching are extremely punishable here! Bears, I think you can get a
licence for one, that's it.

I'm not really too worried about moose, I figure if I plant enough bamboo
and willows around the perimeter they will munch on that, however the bears
might be a concern. I was speaking with a town employee yesterday and he
mentioned the bear population in the area my Crown Land is in (yes I was
approved.yippee), and he figures if they (the bears) feast on all the
dogberries and blueberries around then they would just love the grapes too.
I hadn't considered it and am flummoxed as to what to do. Should I put vines
around the ends and perimeter that I am not fussy on and let them go too it
or use another type of deterrent, (any suggestions)? The area will be fenced
in but I am assuming that if they want in they will get in..maybe I should
just put vines all around the outside of the fence so they won't try and get
in..

Should be interesting at least!

Glenda,

In our area we treat deer with lead. It works great. We also sometimes use
an arrow or black powder rifle.

All kidding aside, I have never had either moose or bear problems. I would
imagine you need to an good electric fence around your perimeter or get your
yourself a hunting license. Both are large animals and do not respond well
to deterrents.

I

Anthony
