First of all, it might be useful to provide some background about the organization of amateur winemaking in Canada.
There are 6 Provincial Amateur Winemaking Associations that make up the Amateur Winemakers of Canada. They are BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. Each assoc. is made up of individual clubs- 2 in Nova Scotia, about 30 in Ont. Each club has an annual competition and those winners can enter their Provincial competition. Winners in each Provincial can then enter the National.
Nova Scotia is the host Province for the National in 2008 and the Annapolis Valley Vintners are the host club. So, the competition will be held in Wolfville on August 23,24, 2008.
We are expecting over 350 entries in 19 wine, beer and cider classes.
The Nova Scotia Provincial will be held near Wolfville in late May of 2008 with entries from members of the 2 clubs. Non-member entries are welcome (for a slightly higher entry fee) but, unfortunately, only member winners can enter the National. The idea has been raised of creating a Member-at-Large category of membership so that individuals from farther away could participate. If that happens, we will let you know.
Planning for the competition is well underway and we will be able to give you more details early in the New Year.
