[Growwine] Wind Knocks Down St. Catherine grapes

no only my grape crop is insured.
Claim on my Sovereigns, no problem and it went through very quickly.

I did have a claim on a rented farm a few years before and found out that the owner had already claimed several years in a row
so the 5 year average (basis for claim) was so low that it turned out I had a GREAT crop compared to his :-(

The rest of my fruit is sold at the farmers market

  Laura

Do you have insurance for all of your crops and have you had any trouble collecting?

well it's intended to be insurance not annual income :-) the hope is that we should only have to collect on it occasionally.

Laura. The insurance is at 80% for the first year not the second an so on I was a crop insurance agent for twenty years in the fruit an grain area of niagara. After so many claims your payments stay the same but what you get back is far less. Maurice.

thank goodness for crop insurance which is cost shared by the Province. THese people will receive 80% of their expected gross income on these lost crops.

And they don;t have to pick, pack or ship :-)

While we bash the government often, it is nice to stop and think about that fact that some of these tax dollars do come back to help us.

And I heard on the Hamilton radio that Puddicombe Farms suffered $100,000 worth of damage in a hailstorm, and that there had been a slick of ice on the major highway as well.

what a shitty year in Ontario, yet I hear of drought south of us.
