Just to add to some grape vines can be vigorus but also fruitful.A friend of ours has a arbor over thieir patio.Its about 15 ft square an one Katelin vine covers the whole thing.Also there was enough grapes to eat an make wine for him and his two sons. Maurice Lounsbury

On a vine that young, it may just be a vigorous shoot.  King of the 
North is a very vigorous variety.
  I did almost the same thing with a Swenson Red vine, which produced a 
shoot over ten feet long the first season and that shoot had a full 
crop.  The vine was in an exceptional spot or I wouldn't have allowed 
it to bear.  It also grew enough new wood that I took off nearly 300 
cuttings this winter, just from that one vine.

The top of the arbor is about 13 feet above grade. One of the canes

trunk last year. Is this a `bull`cane, and if it is, would it be useful 
as a vertical cane up to the top of my arborÉ. I read in Lons book 
where `bull`canes were unfruitful, but was wondering if any shoots of 
it could be used.
